Born in 1919 in Kobe, Japan, Kumi Sugai’s abstract paintings give an account of an ancient time when calligraphy courier magic were entwined, inseparable and approximately insurmountable in their power and authorisation, their vivaciousness juxtaposed with the stomachic urgency of now.
